Kamenné okno via the Hučivá Desná valley

From Kouty station along the yellow-marked trail upstream along the Hučivá Desná via Annín to the Poniklý potok trail junction (2.2 km; detour to the waterfall on the Poniklý potok approx. 0.5 h there and back) and on along a forest road through the valley to the Údolí Hučivé Desné trail junction (4.9 km, 900 m a.s.l.); back the same way – approx. 10 km in total, only to the Poniklý potok and the waterfall approx. 5 km; choose the length according to the children's stamina

Tips

• Caution – route from turistika.cz (updated 2018): Kouty upper car park → Poniklý potok 3.0 km → Údolí Hučivé Desné 5.7 → Sedlo pod Vřesovkou 7.9 → Kamenné okno 8.5 → Vřesová studánka 9.0 → Bílý sloup 10.0 → ČHS 12.6 → Koutský žleb 15.0 → Kouty 17.8 km; approx. 800 m of ascent; with detours to both waterfalls +5 km
• Train there, bus back – From Loučná n. D. station (700 m from CHA-LU-PA) by train to Kouty, up the valley and down from Červenohorské sedlo by bus line 122 – this saves the final 5 km descent.
• Shortest from the pass – With smaller children drive up to Červenohorské sedlo: it's 4 km along a wide track via Vřesová studánka to the Kamenné okno rock window (8 km there and back).
• Waterfalls on the way – In the Hučivá Desná valley the reward is the waterfall on the Poniklý potok stream (detour ~0.5 h). The cascades of the Divoký potok with the footbridge are elsewhere – in Koutský žleb by the yellow-marked trail from Červenohorské sedlo to Kouty, i.e. on the descent of the longer version.
• Pack a snack – Between Kouty and Červenohorské sedlo there is no refreshment stop or spring by the trail – take plenty to drink; the loop takes a whole day.
• Parking – Červenohorské sedlo – paid car park with a ticket machine (according to turistika.cz 2014 approx. 200 Kč/4 h, fills up early in season); Kouty – car park at Areál Kouty / upper car park
• Shuttle bus – Červenohorské sedlo ↔ Kouty n. D. / Loučná: Šumperk–Jeseník regular buses; return from Kouty by train (line 291)
• Restrictions – Jeseníky PLA – keep to the marked trails; the climb from the Hučivá Desná valley to the saddle is a steep forest footpath (not for pushchairs); the green 'Suchostránská cesta' trail from Vřesová studánka to Kouty is closed 30 Sep–30 Nov 2026 due to logging (detour via the yellow 'Stará Sedelská' from ČHS to Kouty)
