How to make the most of cha-lu-pa

Arrival and parking

There is more than enough space to park

  • 2 cars fit beside the cottage
  • 3 in front of the cottage
  • 2 by the driveway
  • 2 at the bottom of the hill

sunrise from the lookout

You have to get up a little early, but it is worth it. The sun rises from behind the mountains directly in front of you – around 6 a.m. in summer. It then floods the living room and the terrace with light, though from the lookout the view is different again.

stars above and below

The fire pit sits on a terrace above the cottage, so while you toast marshmallows you look down over Loučná. If you are here when the trees are bare, the evening by the fire is even better – you will see all the more lights below you.

Swimming against the current

A mill race runs underground beneath the parking area. By the shed you can see the stone arch of the tunnel, from which clear mountain water flows into a channel a metre wide and a metre deep. The current is just strong enough for swimming on the spot 🙂 And yes – one fine day we will build a sauna here, leading straight down into that channel.

The walk down to the village

If you are heading down for dinner at Biograf, it would be a shame to take the ordinary road. The path along the mill race is far more romantic in every season. It starts below the neighbour’s cottage and follows the water all the way to the Oáza ski slope. Watch out for two spots near the beginning where you need a longer stride. Better not to take this route after a few drinks, unless you fancy a swim 🙂

What is coming next

Swing bench (ready since June)

Above the hot tub there is a nice level spot ready for a cushioned swing bench with a canopy.

Decking around the mill race

The mill race deserves comfortable wooden steps down to it, and it would be especially nice to stretch out on sun-warmed decking after a cold dip.

Hot tub

A large hollow ringed with stones and filled with gravel makes it fairly obvious that something pleasant is on the way – we will see how soon we manage it!

A castle for the children

Our digger driver left a small separate mound below the fire pit. The children immediately laid a plank across the path and started using it as a castle with a drawbridge. So I plan to help the idea along and actually build walls with battlements and a real drawbridge up there 🙂

Sauna

Did you notice that the shed stands only a few metres from the mill race? Picture a sauna in the front part of it, with a window onto the landscape and the option of running down and jumping straight into the mountain water!
