By train to Kouty and back on foot

From Loučná n. D. railway station by train to Kouty (approx. 10 min), from the station to Areál Kouty and the Kouty fairy-tale forest (wooden sculptures – the Gingerbread House, charcoal kilns, Praděd; under an hour, free), back on foot: along road 44 to the southern edge of Kouty and then along the footpath and cycle path along the Desná (slightly downhill) via Rejhotice to CHA-LU-PA; pushchair OK

A ride on the electric Železnice Desná railway to the terminus Kouty nad Desnou (556 m), the Koutecký pohádkový les fairy-tale forest and an easy return through the Desná valley along the riverside path

Tips

• Nearest railway station – From CHA-LU-PA it is about 700 m to Loučná nad Desnou railway station – the train to Kouty takes about 10 minutes, the kids will enjoy the ride and the way back is downhill.
• Fairy-tale forest – Right next to Areál Kouty is a small wood with wooden sculptures (free, under an hour) – an ideal reward before the way back.
• For rainy days – If it rains, take the train both ways and just walk the fairytale forest, or shelter in the Bar Lyžárna in the resort.
• Extension – The fitter ones can climb from Kouty along the blue-marked trail to Přemyslov (views of Dlouhé stráně) or take the chairlift up to Medvědí hora and return along the red-marked trail.
• Admission – ČD train ticket Loučná n. D. – Kouty n. D. at the standard fare (IDOS/Můj vlak); the Koutecký pohádkový les (fairy-tale forest) is free
• Parking – not needed (trip by train); the car park at Areál Kouty is paid in summer – 40 Kč/h, max. 200 Kč/day (kouty.cz/doprava-a-parking, price list from 1 Apr 2025), free only in winter for skiers
